Roots are the foundation of a tree’s stability. Exposed roots, soft or sinking soil around the base, mushrooms or fungus growth, and lifting sidewalks or driveways can all signal root damage or decay. Root problems often make trees unsafe even when the canopy still looks healthy. Because root damage is difficult to assess without experience, professional inspection is highly recommended when these signs appear.
